The music of The Trio d’en Bas is unclassifiable, with jazz influence for sure.Their affiliation with the Companie Lubat forged their music on various improvisations, cries of joy, and rhythmic beatings on pots and pans wich have obvious origins in the ambiance of the Uzeste jazz festival.
In response to the aggressiveness of the contemporary media’s rhetoric and to turn publicity taglines on their heads, they coined a slogan of their own that roughly translates as “high-brow music for low-brow France” or the utopia of art that is accessible yet complex and demanding.
Certain people might hear hints of Frank Zappa. Still others will note a small-town sensibility certainly drawn from their connection with the famous St. Pierre d’Aurillac ambulatory band (Bordeaux, France).
The Trio d’en bas proposes a repertory of music that is rough and ready—a joyfully mix of original compositions and sudden improvisations, angry political outbursts and unexpected humor, not to mention the revisitation of borrowed themes from the annals of jazz, French popular music, and sometimes even international pop...
